Polda Metro Jaya will conduct an investigation into the riots that occurred during the mass demonstration of the Association of Indonesian Village Governments (APDESI) on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
During this action, the crowd reportedly damaged walls and tried to tear down the fence of the DPR RI building.
Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Karyoto said that his party had documentation regarding this incident and would investigate it thoroughly.
However, Karyoto revealed that to date no demonstration participants have been arrested by the police.
However, he suspected that they had prepared the tools to carry out the damage.
Karyoto stated that if there is evidence of damage, the police will hold the perpetrator accountable.
To journalists, Karyoto also emphasized that no police officers were injured in the incident, even though bottles and stones were thrown at them by the crowd.
He felt grateful because the police officers were equipped with equipment such as helmets and shields so they could protect themselves from these threats.
Karyoto also added that if the bottle was only empty and had no contents, it would not be dangerous if it hit a police officer.
On the previous occasion, a demonstration carried out by the APDESI crowd in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building also resulted in riots.
