This regulation aims to regulate imports and shift supervision over imports of several commodities entering Indonesia.
The Soekarno-Hatta Customs and Excise Office in Tangerang has started implementing new regulations regarding restrictions on the movement of goods for passengers traveling from abroad starting March 10, 2024.
The restrictions on passenger luggage are a response to the enactment of Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023 concerning Import Policies and Regulations.
In this regulation, several types of passenger luggage are limited in number, such as footwear (2 pairs), bags (2 pcs), other finished textile goods (5 pcs), electronics (5 units with a maximum total value of FOB 1,500), cell phones, handhelds, and tablet computers (2 pcs within 1 year).
This new regulation applies to all passengers traveling abroad, including Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who will return to their homeland.
With this regulation, it is hoped that it can limit the import of certain goods entering Indonesia through passenger luggage crossings.
