Gibran had banned his younger brother from running for the Jakarta gubernatorial election, preferring Kaesang to be a candidate for leader of Central Java.
"If it's Kaesang, don't go to Jakarta," said Gibran at the Solo DPRD Office Tuesday, July 9 2024.
Gibran also dismissed reports that his visit to Jakarta the other day was to 'help' his younger brother lobby parties related to Kaesang's candidacy there. He admitted that he came because of another agenda.

"I don't have any relations with Kaesang in Jakarta. Why endorse him (Kaesang), no," he said.
“There are indeed invitations (from Jakarta). Like tomorrow, Wednesday (10 July 2024), I'm going back to Jakarta to have a meeting with APKASI (Association of District Governments of All Indonesia). "There are several (shopping problems), I already mentioned flooding, traffic jams, slum areas," said Gibran.
