The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) is preparing several concrete steps to protect children from pornographic content in Indonesia's digital realm.
According to the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, this effort involves creating special regulations.
Examples include the Draft Government Regulation (RPP) which is intended to protect children in the digital space, as well as providing digital literacy to parents.
Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized that this effort is a form of the state's commitment to protecting children in cyberspace. The RPP Child Online Protection that they are proposing is a derivative of the ITE Law.
Then it will become a legal umbrella for children who are vulnerable to becoming victims of violence and pornography in the digital realm.
The process of drafting the RPP is expected to be completed in July 2024 after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
Apart from that, the Ministry of Communication and Information also focuses on increasing the digital literacy of parents in order to provide maximum protection to children when surfing in cyberspace.
According to Budi, parental awareness of digital literacy is very important to realize that assistance and supervision in children's internet access is also needed to prevent cases of crime in cyberspace.
The digital literacy programs being intensified by the Ministry of Communication and Information aim to provide parents with an understanding that monitoring the social media content consumed by children is one of the important keys in ensuring the safety and welfare of children in this digital era.
Through campaigns and outreach, it is hoped that parents in this digital era will become more aware of their role and responsibility in protecting their children from the risks that exist in the digital realm.
Thus, it is hoped that the steps taken by the Ministry of Communication and Information can provide appropriate protection and direction for Indonesian children so that they remain safe and protected when using digital technology.
All parties, from the government, parents, to society itself must work together to create a safe and comfortable digital environment for future generations of children.
