Former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Prosecutors believe that SYL has been proven guilty of extorting his subordinates at the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan).
Today, SYL underwent a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Crime Court (Tipikor) today and felt that it was absurd that he was charged with corruption.
According to SYL, if he wanted to commit corruption, of course he would have done it since he first served in the region, not when he served as minister.
For information, before becoming a minister in President Jokowi's government, SYL held the positions of Regent of Gowa Regency for the 1994-2002 period, Deputy Governor of South Sulawesi for the 2003-2008 period, and Governor of South Sulawesi for the 2008-2018 period.
SYL said that if he had intended corruption from the start, of course he would have been very rich by now.
However, this is different from the current situation where his house is still flooded.
"My house is still flooded when it floods, sir, in Makassar. I live at BTN. I'm not used to being bribed by people. None, I never have," he said while sobbing during the trial.

Regarding the money he received while serving as minister, SYL said the money was honorary and official travel money, which he always asked about to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) for the 2021–2023 period Kasdi Subagyono and SYL's former aide, Panji Harjanto.
"Both of them always answered that these costs were all in accordance with the regulations and in the typical words that I always remember, they said that this had been accounted for, it was the minister's right," he said.
