Hearing the excitement about dialysis children made Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin open his voice about the number of children undergoing dialysis.
The Minister of Health asked parents to monitor their children's sugar intake in food and drinks.
As is known, many snack drinks nowadays contain sugar.
The Minister of Health said that there are around 35.8 million people or 13 percent of the Indonesian population who experience diabetes because they are accustomed to consuming high levels of sugar. In fact, this habit can lead to kidney failure and having to undergo dialysis for the rest of his life.

"Many children are now given drinks and food with high levels of sugar. So, Indonesia loves sugar. Even though sugar is the cause of all kinds of diseases. Starting from the kidneys, liver, stroke, heart disease, that's the cause of sugar," said the Minister of Health at Gedung Sate Bandung, Friday 2 August 2024.
Budi appealed to the public, especially children, to start reducing their consumption of foods and drinks high in sugar to prevent the emergence of chronic diseases.
If you can, said Budi, stop drinking sugar.
"Kids now drink all sugar. That's what needs to be reduced. Go back to no sugar," he advised.
